How one occupation is matched across five classification systems
- Each country uses its own classification — SOC in America, SOC2020 in Britain, NOC in Canada, ANZSCO in Australia, ISCO-08 at the ILO.
- Matching them mechanically produces nonsense, so the spine is curated by hand: a country joins a comparison only when its classification contains a genuinely equivalent occupation.
- Where a country publishes several narrow specialisms instead of one broad occupation, the comparison page names the specific one used.
- Where no equivalent exists, the country is listed as not shown rather than filled in with something close.
